Period Properties

When it comes to period properties, we know first hand the importance of keeping within the original proportions of the original and traditional windows. Many period properties will be listed buildings, or within conservation areas - we have vast knowledge and experience of working with these properties, and can advise on all aspects of the project, from partnering with our trusted architects to support with the design and submission of planning applications, to advising on the materials and specifications necessary for the manufacturing and installation of your windows.

Our process

Manufacturing

We are a Bristol based workshop, specialising in the manufacture of traditional windows and all other aspect of joinery. All of our products produced in our workshop are built by hand, using traditional woodworking machinery and techniques, without the aid of CNC machines. We pride ourselves on keeping traditional techniques alive and passing them on to the next generation of joiners.

Installation

We provide an installation service for all products we manufacture. Our service includes the removal and disposal of your current windows, installation of the new windows in line with Part Q building regulations, and the making good of the internal and external of the window, if required. All of our installations will include a FENSA certificate, unless specified otherwise.

Supply Only

if you are a building company or already have someone in mind that you wish to install your windows, we can provide a supply only service whereby we manufacture and deliver your windows to you - in some instances this can lead to quicker lead times.

Longevity Guarantee

With all of our windows and external joinery we offer an insurance backed guarantee against the timber, paint finish, moving parts, glass and, of course, the workmanship on the product.

We offer:

A 10 year workmanship guarantee
A 10 year paint guarantee, when painted on Accoya
A 10 year guarantee on double glazed units

Timber

At TWJ Sash we pride ourselves on sustainability and making sure all of the materials used in our windows are not only sustainably sourced but have a low carbon cost, as well as making sure they will last for many years to come, for future generations to enjoy.

Our recommended timber is Accoya, as we believe this to be the longest lasting timber available in the market, due to its treatment properties and processes. It comes with an excellent market leading 50 year warranty against rot, and has been developed from a fast growing timber, making it much more sustainable than traditional hardwoods due to the time required for it to be harvested and treated.

In instances where other timber is specified we use timber from one of our trusted suppliers which only use responsibly sourced FSC approved timber, which enables us to create our products to the highest of standards.

Coatings & Finishes

One of the most important aspects when producing timber windows is choosing the correct way of sealing or finishing the wood to ensure preservation and to prolong the lifetime of the window.

At TWJ Sash, we use a microporous paint created by Teknos UK, which offers a substantial range of colours to match any of the major paint supplier's colour charts. They also offer a wide range of translucent finishes and wood stains if you are looking for a more natural timber finish.

We apply these finishes using a spray system in our in-house finishing department, which creates a smooth result and a longer lasting, low maintenance finish. When used alongside Accoya timber we offer a 10 year guarantee against the windows requiring repainting,

Advice and Design

If you require support or advice on the correct windows and products to use in your property, with a vast knowledge and interest of historical buildings, we can help you make the right choices for your property. For examples, you may be looking to make your property look historically correct, or wish to adjust the design but don’t want to ruin the aesthetics of the building - whatever your situation, we are here to consult you. You will also have access to our extensive network or trade partners, as well as architects to assist with your project.
